What kind of insanity have I wrought? What does it take to do something like this?
What’s next on my plate? What does Tee Morris’s pubic hair have to do with podcasting?
Give it a listen and find out as Tee Morris roasts and interviews me on this special one-hour retrospective on Predestination and look forward to Free Will and Down From Ten.
Thank you all for listening all these long months.

After a childhood in academia, J. Daniel Sawyer declared his independence by dropping out of high school and setting off on a series of adventures in the bowels of the film industry, the venture capital culture of silicon valley, surfing safaris, bohemians, burners, historians, theologians, adventurers, climbers, drug dealers, gangbangers, and inventors before his past finally caught up to him.
Trapped in a world bookended by one wall falling in Berlin and other walls going up around suburbia and along national borders throughout the world, he rediscovered his deep love of history and, with it, and obsession with predicting the future as it grew aggressively out of the past.
To date, this obsession has yielded over thirty books and innumerable short stories, the occasional short film, nearly a dozen podcasts stretching over a decade and a half, and a career creating novels and audiobooks exploring the world through the lens of his own peculiar madness, in the depths of his own private forest in a rural exile, where he uses the quiet to write, walk on the beach, and manage a production company that brings innovative stories to the ears of audiences across the world.

I finished the Predestination podcast a little while ago, and I’ve been catching up on all the special features that you’ve tossed out like tideovers to your Resistance Members/Crack Addicted Monkey Resistance Agents in between the interminable gaps between Episodes.
Dan, you already know what I think of your novel. I’ve loved it since I first saw the drafts snippets you’d fling my way many moons ago. That being said, I’m going to say one thing. I think the production job you did with this podiobook/podcast novel simply raises the bar a couple dozen notches. I may be new to this game, but I think this medium brings something fundamentally new and vibrant to the field.
It’s one thing to read about a panic-stricken escape from a cult compound. It’s another to hear the crash, to all but smell the incense, and all but taste the panic in the narrator’s voice. Writing is a tactile art, and this podcast gave me *soooo* many more surfaces to run my ears and mind along and over. It was glorious.
However, there was one thing I wanted to say. Listening to feedback is nice – and yes, this is the time where you increment the mighty Recursion Level Meter of SCIENCE! (Kitty, sound effect please!)
The thing that I really treasure, both as an audience member and as a growing, changing, evolving, CAMRA member is that, not only am I getting a good idea of what my fellow co-revolutionaries are thinking and saying, but I’m also getting *VERY* deep into the author’s mind, his/her intent, mindset, and even the origins of the story.
I wanted to close this by expounding on one thing you mentioned in an early Dealing In episode. You said that literature and art today doesn’t really cover, describe, or give a way for people to experience by-proxy what happens when people ‘earn their salvation’ and grow into an adult, or even a Nietzschian ubermensch. Having walked down many dark paths myself, I see your intent very clearly. This also goes back to what I said earlier with not just getting deeper into the story, but getting deeper into the author’s (deeply texan/fucked up) mind. I’m looking into what you, Phillipa, and (not Lester, but) Chris are projecting and explaining, and I’m understanding more of myself.
